Your initial consultation appointment is between 15-30 minutes, and your whitening appointment will last approximately 1 hour.
Discoloration of the enamel can be caused by a variety of reasons As such, it is very difficult to predict exactly how many shades of improvement one can expect from a single teeth whitening treatment. Because whitening gel is used to treat yellowing teeth due to stains from foods and other pigmented oral products, internally damaged or unevenly calcified enamel are much more difficult to treat. Likewise, any replaced or unnatural teeth structures will not change color. The average improvement our patients have experienced is between 3-6 shades; however, we can not provide any guarantee of any shade improvement. Results are largely based on the product’s interaction with individual teeth anatomy.
While 90% of patients see some improvements of at least 1 shade, we do not make any guarantees of shade improvement.
Yes! Good oral health and hygiene is a requirement for teeth whitening. A teeth cleaning is highly recommended prior to your whitening treatment. Whether you are due for your routine cleaning, or have yet to find a dentist in Oakland to get you on track with your dental care, we can certainly provide you with hygiene care, diagnostic exams, and preventive recommendations, even on the same day as your whitening appointment.
All teeth whitening patients should be on a regular hygiene care schedule, with the most recent hygiene visit within the last 6 months. Eligibility for teeth whitening is determined by an in office 15 minute oral cavity exam and dental history review. During this consultation, you will have the opportunity to ask questions about the treatment, and understand the procedures and care instructions. Generally your teeth whitening appointment can immediately follow your consultation.
The simple answer is “no.” However, we cannot account for all dental policies and plans available on the market. If you have reason to believe that your insurance or plan allows for flexible spending, please let us know, and we will do our best to find you coverage.
Some sensitivity with the use of whitening products is to be expected, however, the intensity will vary based on each individual’s anatomy. If you are concerned about sensitivity, please consider taking ibuprofen prior to your whitening appointment, or ask us about sensitivity pre-treatment. Sensitivity relief treatment is available after your whitening as well.
You are free to eat as soon as you’d like. However, keep in mind that it will take 1-2 days for the pores in your enamel to close, and we advise that you stay away from highly pigmented foods and beverages. Eat carefully by chewing towards the back of your mouth, and sipping beverages through a straw.
